Betty Williams has been a member of our Auxiliary for 27 years! Most of her time has been at the Pineapple Gift Shop. She began as a buyer, along with her friend Edie Lysaght. They oversaw purchasing at the shop when Beanie Babies were all the rage! Betty remembers the days when people lined up outside the door of the shop at the old hospital when they heard a new shipment had arrived! Betty has also served on the Auxiliary Board of Directors in several positions. She served as the 2nd VP for programs and on the nominating committees. Betty was a volunteer at all the Mistletoe Markets making wreaths and arrangements to sell among many other duties. Betty became a life member of the Auxiliary in 2013. Life membership is given by vote of the Auxiliary Board to past or current members who have provided outstanding and notable service the Auxiliary for 10 or more continuous years.
By our last Appreciation Tea on April 24th, Betty received her pin for achieving 10,000 volunteer hours for the Auxiliary and the hospital! This is the highest recognition a volunteer at SWRMC can receive! And it is well deserved. Betty’s dedication and joy for all she does is recognized by everyone who knows her and meets her. She still volunteers at the Pineapple Gift Shop every week. If you are in hospital on Friday morning, please stop I and visit/purchase from Betty!
Isn’t it wonderful that our hospital community has such amazing volunteers! Everyone in our Auxiliary appreciates all her dedication to it’s programs through all these years. Heres to you Betty Williams and thank you!

High School Auxiliary Scholarship recipients!

Our auxiliary has recently awarded $1000 scholarships to four local graduates. Students from West Point, York, Gloucester and WJCC applied. Each year the Auxiliary awards scholarships to local seniors who have volunteered in the Jr Volunteer Program and are seeking careers in the health care field. Best

This years recipients are:

Elena Evans from York High School & will be attending Georgetown University in the fall. From Elena " I was honored to be chosen for the scholarship because I have so much respect for Sentara as a whole and especially for the volunteer department. The scholarship will allow me to study Global Health at Georgetown & hopefully continue my studies by earning a medical degree & working as a diagnostician or epidemiologist.

Duyen Phan from West Point HighSchool who stated he felt very honored to be chosen for this scholarship & it will help him reach his goal by giving him the confidence that he has what it takes to succeed in a healthcare profession. Duyen will be attending VCU in the fall.

Kiley Curren just graduated from Walsingham and will be attending Clemson University. Kiely told us she was beyond honored to receive this scholarship and it will help her pursue her long term goal of becoming a pediatrician.

The final recipiant is Taylor Sharp from Gloucester High School.

Congratulations Elena, Duyen, Kiley & Taylor! We are so proud to help you reach your lofty goals and future endeavors! Best of luck to you all! See MoreSee Less
